WHO ARE THE PSYCHONICS?

Based near the vibrant party town of Carrick-on-Shannon in the mythical land of County Leitrim in the northwest of Ireland, The Psychonics are a fun, rocking dance band that plays a broad range of musical styles from the Fifties to the present day, including pop, rock ‘n’ roll, rockabilly, disco, rock and country.
The four guys, all talented, experienced musicians and veterans of the live music scene, provide the tuneful hooks and dynamic rhythmic beats that allow the powerful melodic vocals of the band’s fabulous singer, Mandi, to really shine.
They are currently available for bookings for your party, wedding, corporate function or other event.
So, if you are looking for a band that will guarantee a rollicking, entertaining good time at your next shindig, one that will get your guests throwing all manner of shapes on the dance floor, then The Psychonics is the band for you.

MANDI PSYCHONIC: Lead Vocals & Flute

Mandi, from Wiltshire in England, is the focal point of the band. She began her music career as a youngster singing with her dad’s band and she has since performed at countless gigs in both the U.K. and Ireland. Her awesome voice suits virtually any style of song from blues-belters and jazz standards to pop to hard rock and all points in between. Not only is Mandi an outstanding vocalist but she also adds an extra dimension to the band’s musicality with her accomplished flute-playing.

PETE PSYCHONIC: Lead & Acoustic Guitars

Pete, from Belfast, started out as an acoustic guitar picker in folk clubs. He picked up an electric guitar only a few years ago but he’s taken to it like a duck to water and has since discovered his inner Rock Monster, though he’s equally happy picking out a more laid-back country, pop or even disco lick as the occasion demands.

JOHNNY PSYCHONIC: Acoustic Guitar, Harmonica, Lead & Backing Vocals

Johnny (a.k.a. the Man in the Hat) is another Belfast native. He loves to sit around a camp-fire for a singalong with his trusty acoustic and a bunch of friends but he was also born to be on stage, his natural habitat. He lays down a subtle groove to many of the band’s songs with his chugging harmonica-playing and really comes into his own when it’s his turn for a solo. He takes the lead vocal on several numbers (his Johnny Cash stylings really get the crowd hopping) and adds harmony backing on many others.

JOE PSYCHONIC: Bass, Lead & Backing Vocals

Joe, from Dundalk, gained his musical education in the good auld days of punk, new wave, ska and reggae. He has played bass in a number of bands and is equally at home on stage and in the recording studio. You’ll know he’s happy when he sets his mouth in a punk-rock pout and drops his bass below the hip, gunslinger-style. He also takes the odd lead vocal, which he’s much better at than he thinks he is.

BRENT PSYCHONIC: Drums & Backing Vocals

Brent, the old man of the band, is Welsh but we don’t hold that against him. He started out back in the day as a drummer in dance bands performing in the ‘bingo & chicken-in-the-basket’ cabaret clubs in South Wales. His guilty listening pleasures at the time were progressive rock and jazz fusion but his inability to master these technically demanding musical forms meant that he concentrated more on learning how to hammer out a much simpler, wickedly-danceable beat. He has plied his trade in a wide variety of musical genres including pop, rock, blues, funk and ska. He and Joe have now forged a formidable rhythm section that underpins the band with power and precision.
