Joy Stuhr is a classically trained, multi-instrumental singer-songwriter with an imaginative sound. Her music is easily accessible and soulful. She performs and composes on piano, cello, guitar and ukulele.
Joy began composing at age 9, when her first song was published in a music magazine for children. Originally from Wisconsin, Joy lived abroad for four years in Latin America, travelling, teaching and eventually working as first mate on a sailing vessel. Her adventures widely influenced her music and added the “sabor latino” or Latin flavor that at times shows up in her sound. She released her first EP “Band of Gooses” in May 2011.
Currently, Joy is performing in NYC with her newly-formed trio, joined by Bugra Balci, award winning bassist, composer and producer, and Poyraz Aldemir, drummer of Glitch Cake and Durations. Their first performance in December 2012 was well-received, and since then they have enjoyed a growing fan-base. They perform regularly in New York City. They've performed at venues such as Pianos, Good-bye Blue Monday and the Delancy.
Joy plans to release her new CD by May 2013 and tour Europe beginning in the summer of 2013.
