Gary D. Jones Jr. first started learning guitar when he was at a young age. Learning to play by ear and never having a lesson just like his father. " I think i was between the age of 4 or 5 when dad got me my first guitar. It wasnt anything special, just something for me to get the feel for it and learn to play. I was always amazed how dad could play and sing at the same time." Watching his father, Gary Jones Sr. play for the late legendary country music hall of famer Ray Price for 27 years and also for Doug Kershaw before that, Gary Jr. wanted to play guitar and sing for a country artist like his dad. Later on he found out that he, like his father, had a voice for music so he decided he would be a country music singer and guitarist. When Gary was 12 years old Ray Price started letting him go out on the road with him and the legendary Cherokee Cowboys. "This truly was an honor for me to be able to do that because no other child was aloud to go on the road. Me and the Chief had a very unique friendship". Gary grew up knowing Price as "Papa Price", and by the time he was 15, Price had asked him to be his grandson. "I remember we was on the bus together in Longview,TX for his 79th birthday. We was watching a video of him performing that I had found from back in the late 80's. He looked at me and asked if he could be my grandfather since mine had already past away. He and my grandfather were always very close. I said yes to that honor. So from that point on everyone knew me as his grandson." Even though he was not blood related he would always be know as Price's grandson. Gary would continue to go with his father and Price on many trips learning the business and making new friends such as Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Ray Benson, Kris Kristopherson, and many more. Between his 10th and 11th grade year in high school, he began to put his band together, Gary Jones & The Silver Spurs. After leaving his home town to move to Alba-Golden, Tx he began doing shows and furthering his voice and guitar skills. He started to play shows and open jams. While playing a show at a club called "Dooleys Sports Grill in Mineola, TX, he was introduced to Columbia Recording artist Pitty Pat Guidry. Gary says, "Being able to meet and become great friends with Pitty Pat has been a great honor". Pitty Pat decided to take Gary under his wing and became his mentor in the music business. After hours of playing, singing, and shows he finally decided to record an album. Gary's friend, Raphael Espinoza had a big part in the creation of the album. Gary says, "When I talked with Raphael about me wanting to record an album he told me he had a recording system at his house. So we got together and talked about what i might want on the record. I told him lets make it as easy as possible.I had always loved writing songs but I never thought I would have the chance to record them.We spend about three days putting it together and 3 days recording it. together we put the whole c.d. together and became a great hit for me." After recording the "Rainy Day Girl." album he became more well known in his town and surrounding counties. Today, Gary has multiple singles released and is still performing and staying busy on the road. Doing more than 150 shows a year both full band and acoustic. He has gone from the small bars and clubs to a multi award winning Texas country music artist and is staying very true to his country roots. "I love my dad so much and i really am honored to be his son. If he wouldnt have been a guitarist i dont know if i ever would have even wanted to pick up a guitar or would have ever wanted to sing. I love you dad and thank you for everything you have taught me and everything that will come in time. Thanks to my mom and my sister for being my biggest fans and always pushing me to go the next step and be the best at what I can. I love both of ya'll very much. Thanks to all the people who have come out to the shows to support us giving us the chance to bring traditional country music back into the hearts and souls of everyone. We hope to keep doing this as long as we can. Thank you everyone for believing in me and in the band. Finally I want to thank God for blessing me with these talents and giving me a chance in life to serve him and spread the his great word. We will see yall out there really soon."
