Emerging out of Charleston, SC (aka Port City), a city known for its
beauty, sweet grass and Gullah/Geechie culture, comes to you a young
Emcee/song writer on the rise. He goes by the name of K.i.D. Mimic. He is gradually making a name for himself on the music scene.
Being a true native amongst Charlestonians, he is inspired by city life,
family ties, and the true art of creation. He started his music journey in high school through poetry and basic rhymes, but it wasn’t until his later days of college that he decided to actually start becoming serious about his craft.
“I really needed time to develop my skills. In high school it was cool
to just jot down some bars and kick a few rhymes to the homeys, but I
wanted to be great. I wanted to be respected for my craft.”
Listening to Hip-Hop legends like; Run DMC, Black Star, Tribe Called Quest, and Andre 3000, has been the musical influence for his career.
“I would never claim to sound like anyone or bite their style, but some friends say my flow resembles that of Wale, but others say an old school/neo-soul feel like Mos Def. Its really hard to say, but I definitely think that every artist has their own unique sound and
style".
From 2009-2011 he linked up with an artist by the name of Young Hood
from Burgess SC. Together they collaborated on a few tracks and YH has
featured K.i.D on several of his mixtapes.
It was during this time that through a mutual friend, he met with Ife
Ekpenuma and Matthew Simmons.
“ I met with Ife in Columbia at Wild Wings and he asked me to spit a few bars, but before I could finish flowing, he was already welcoming me to the team.”
From this point on K.i.D was considered to be a part of the Audacrease
Entertainment Group, LLC (AEG). Members of AEG include: Knormal A+,
Flame- Flizzo, and J. Wils. Since joining the label, he has collaborated with AEG artist as well as Charleston native Justin Wilson (J Wils). They can both be seen on the AEG Cypher video.
Currently K.i.D. Mimic is working on the release of his freshman
mixtape that is titled “Unlocked Potential”. It is set to release on
October 22, 2012.
“My vision for my mix tape is to show everyone my lyrical ability and how different my music is from the norm. I want to put Chucktown on the map and to have people vibe to my music in a good way. My music is an expression of my life and myself and I want my listeners to be able to relate to my music.”
K.i.D is also working on his brand “Wreckless Mouthpiece”
; in which he relates to his“not conforming to society’s rules and being open to free speech and expression”. K.i.D Mimic is an artist that will give Charleston its much deserved shine and be the voice of the young people.
It’s a Wreckless World, and he is definitely the artist whose
presence will make it worth living in.
