In the years since its inception in 2010 during the heated summer months in Dallas, Texas - Black Dog Friday has been many things. With a full band, the sound can only be described as progressive southern rock & soul. With bluesy strums and twangy rhythm, their music flows through you and makes you feel the words and tones in your bones. With inspirations spreading from the popular (Kings of Leon, Johnny Cash, Black Crows, Damien Rice) to the obscure (The White Buffalo, James Bay, Jeff Buckley, Dave Fenley & The Good Deal), there’s bound to be a song, style, tempo or feeling to make everyone happy.
With a handful of studio and live recordings, Black Dog Friday has made the band’s name through rigorous live performances. Constantly writing, booking shows and interacting with whomever will listen, they are constantly on the move to get more of the band’s music to the public. Each member has a different and unique musical background which honed their skills and transformed them into something that melds their history with their passion and becomes something completely unique.
Over the years, Black Dog Friday (or BDF), have been able to enjoy some of the best things about being in a musical metropolis like Dallas. From headlining shows at Liquid Lounge, Curtain Club and The Prophet Bar, to be supporting acts for artists/bands such as Ryan Star, Thriving Ivory and Jason Castro. As of now, they're still plugging away booking shows, making calls and setting up tour dates throughout the south. There’s no venue too big or small, backyard birthday party, dive bar or street corner they won’t play. And they will cause they love it.
Well, we have been trucking along. Got some big news coming up soon, but for right now, got some more shows coming down the pipe! That's right, more chances to see us live and in person all over the DFW area. Check the shows link to find out where!
And after 2 years, BDF made our triumphant return to the stage at Curtain Club on August 6, 2016! And let me tell you, it was amazing! I forgot how much I missed sharing a stage with a group of talented musicians, brothers in arms, backing me up and tearing it all down! We had such a great comback show, and this is only the beginning.
We'll be working hard to book more shows in more cities, get our recordings finished, start up the merch machine and a thousand other things we need to get going before we explode! Keep a sharp eye out for our next show and come see us!
I know it has been a while since the last update. It's not for lack of wanting to, but Black Dog Friday has been INSANELY busy over the past couple of months. The lineup is finally finished and the full band IS BACK! Please welcome to the fold:
Nick Sarabia - Drums
Matt Flynn - Electric Guitar
Seth Rogers - Lead Guitar/Banjo
Marc Berry - Bass
Needless to say this is a big thing and everyone in the BDF camp is excited to be moving forward with this group of guys.
The band has also been busy recording our soon to be released EP. One track is down and over the next month, the other 2 tracks will be laid down as well. Hopefully by the end of summer, we wil have a finished product to slay your ear holes with.
Keep checking back every now and then to see what else is coming up. Like the Facebook, follow the Twitter and keep the love coming!!!
So, tonight will be the first FULL BAND practice in almost 2 years. After gutting it out acoustically for a while and trying to rebuild, the dream is back together. We have the players, now we need to refine the sound. It'll take some doing, but hopefully soon, we'll be able to book shows as a full unit. Keep checking back and let's all think good thoughts!!
Hey everyone! So, things are going well. Got some shows coming up this month, doing some writing and arranging. Still looking for a bassist, so if you know of anyone, let me know. Would be awesome. Come on out to a show sometime and hang out. Keep sharing the music and getting the name out there.
Morning everyone! I know it has been a while since there’s been an update, but that’s because there have been some interesting developments with BDF. Over the last couple of months, there have been some changes. And while we are still alive and kicking, we’re not ready to disclose the information just yet. There will be an announcement coming very soon, so keep checking back to find out more. In the meantime, there are a couple of acoustic shows coming up this month. April 10th and 17th at Intrinsic Smokehouse in downtown Garland from 6-9 pm. No cover. So come on out and have some fun!
ASPIRING MUSICIANS! If you or anyone you know is a proficient lead guitarist, send them our way. We are currently seeking a permanent lead guitarist to round out the band and fill our sound out. We’re not looking for an Yngwei or Morello, but someone who can improvise, add what’s missing and an all-around cool cat. Leave the drama, but bring your professional attitude, gear and reliable transportation and we’ll do the rest. Hit up the contact page to send us your info!
Hey everyone. So, I figured now would be a good time to put some news out there. Black Dog Friday is currently seeking a new lead guitarist. Not looking for the next Yngwie, but someone who can complement the sound we have and who digs the music. So if you or anyone you know plays lead and is looking for a new gig, hit us up! We’re auditioning NOW!!!
Many thanks to everyone who came out to the show at Intrinsic Smokehouse. And the crew there is awesome as well as the food and beer. Cannot wait to go back. In the meantime, gonna be taking a break in shows while doing some writing and other things. Keep checking all the interwebs for any new info that might come out. As always, spread the word, come to shows, listen to the tunes and we’ll see you next time!
Things have been busy, which is why updates are taking so long to get done. And for that I am sorry. Hopefully, things will continue to be busy, but I’ll remember to type words on the internet so people can know things. In the meantime, come on out to shows, follow the Twitter, like the Facebook, subscribe to the YouTube and other such forms of keeping in touch.
2016!!! Man, I hope everyone had a safe and awesome holiday break! Besides the tornadoes and such, I think it went pretty well. AS we kick off into this new year, there’s a lot of good news going around. Some acoustic shows are being booked and maybe some more writing…..maybe. So, what does 2016 hold for Black Dog Friday? A lot! And it’s all going to be awesome. There will be a big announcement in February, so keep checking back for that. Keep spreading the word on BDF and the Facebook, website, YouTube and whatnot. We can’t do any of this without you!!
Christmas has come and gone and I hope everyone had a blast. Can’t believe it came and went so fast. And not just that but the entire year! 2015 is just days away from becoming a distant memory. A lot has happened this year – not just in the life of BDF, but in the world. We’ve lost some great people, had deplorable acts of terrorism both here and abroad, we’ve celebrated in triumph and so much more. 2016 – there’s a lot on the horizon. Both good and bad I’m sure. But not knowing which will happen more is exciting and scary and that same time. All I know is I am happy with what’s been going on and what will continue to go on in the future. We also hope that you guys will continue to follow us and support us in whatever it is that happens. We cannot wait to let you in on some of the stuff we’re working on – but it’s going to be fantastic! So have a safe New Year and we’ll see you in 2016!!! #KeepItLocal #DallasMusic #BDF #2015ByeFelicia #Hello2016
...well, last show of 2015 that is. Come on out to Bryan Street Tavern next Frioday and hang with me for a couple of hours. Eat some pizza, drink some alcohol, listen to music, have a good time. These things are awesome to do. DO THEM! Doors at 10 pm, no cover. Bring it people, and let's forget the bad decision we all made this year.
This one won't be one, though.
NOVEMBER! Halloween has come and gone again, and it’s always great fun. I missed not having a show that night, but I got to hang with the kiddos and grab some candy – and I always love candy! The year is drawing to a close, and what a year it has been. Been lots of ups and downs, good times, great music and some changes. And more is coming. Got some shows lined up this month, including a Coffee House weekend that kicks off in Garland and comes to a close at White Rock. These are free shows, so come on out, grab a cup and a scone or something and listen to me warble on the mic for a few hours. Then, later in the month, I’ll be making my way to Addison for a show at the Lion & Crown Pub! Gonna be a great month. Nothing coming up in December, but I’m sure that might change. Hope to see you all out there at one of these gigs so we can hang out and have some fun!
This past show in Denison was an absolute awesome time. The staff was great and dug the sound, the food was excellent and the place in general was more than I expected. And everyone who stuck around and came out despite the bad weather – well, we ALL had a great time. Hope to see you at the next show. Got a coffee house weekend coming up in November. Generator Coffee in Garland on the 13th and White Rock Coffee on the 14th! No cover and plenty of fun. Come on out!!
So, I had planned to take the month of October off to write some new stuff and take a small break. And I have done that…mostly. I have added a show for next week, but they came a calling and I had to answer. Ok, I didn’t have to but I wanted to. I have been writing some new stuff though. 3 NEW songs so far. And one or more will be debuted at this new show next Friday.
There’s also some other potentially big news, but I am reticent to say anything about it right now. I need to make sure everything is lined up properly and it works out before I start spouting off. Just know there’s things in the works that will make A LOT of people very happy!
Keep checking back for more updates, and follow the band on Twitter and like us on Facebook (those get updated more regularly than this site).

So, there was a Kickstarter a couple of months ago that failed to capture enough funds to support the new CD. So, we're at it again. This time with GoFundMe. A ton of people have been saying that's where we should've gone the first time, so we'll give that a shot. Keep checking back for more info and news on that front!
